Hotel Caravelle

Hotel Information: This casual waterfront hotel on St. Croix dates from the 1960s. Business travelers stay here because of in-town convenience. Sports-minded vacationers appreciate the Hotel Caravelle’s proximity to boat trips to Buck Island Reef National Monument, where a famed snorkeling trail and pristine beach await.

Amenity highlights: Hotel Caravelle has a courtyard splash pool surrounded by a sundeck. A second sundeck is terraced above the pool; another overlooks the harbor and its colorful boats. The casual, open-air RumRunners restaurant/bar is one of Christiansted's most popular waterfront spots and features lobsters from a tank at dinner.

Insider tip: The Deck Bar, part of RumRunners restaurant on the hotel's waterfront side, shines a light nightly on a patch of water to attract tarpon for a daily feeding.

Hotel Caravelle offers 43 air-conditioned guestrooms on the top two floors of a three-story pink building (no elevators). Rooms have sliding glass doors fronted by white ornamental balconies with no step-out space. Views are of the harbor, boardwalk, and pool. Wireless Internet access is complimentary. Rooms are outfitted with compact refrigerators, safes, and two-chair dining sets that also serve as desks. Bathrooms have shower stalls (no tubs).
